Letter from (Rev.)Gordon A. Young

Dear Sir:

On behalf of the informal group, Mobility-Awareness Group, have asked me to write to you in support of your cause for the saving of the downtown colleges. Both colleges while not overly accessible for those of diminished mobility, are nevertheless important to those with such diminished mobility in that the colleges are much closer for the mobility-diminished to access the d owntown. The distance being much shorter.

While none of their families have attended either college, several their grandchildren's friends who are mobility-diminished have studied at Catharine Parr Traill College and found that college's location ideal for their difficulties. Again, not so much the College and student quarters, but, rather it was much more convenient than being farther north where getting a cab or a handivan seemed to be more of a complication. Just why it was ha rder to get a cab or handivan from the main campus (Bata Library) was never ascertained while these students were there....they eventually moved to other universities were access was improved...but not necessarily for the quality of teaching.

Rather, they found the teaching less progressive at these other institutions than they received at Catharine Parr Traill College. Thus if we can otherwise support your endeavors with the other professors we'd be delighted. I am asked to express their best wishes to you and that you might have some success.

Sincerely,

(Rev.)Gordon A. Young
