Whoops! Another miscalculation by Trent administration
Fewer students than expected

OurTrent Editor's note: Whoops! Another miscalculation.

Trent University's latest enrolment figures are up about six percent from last year but down about four percent from what was expected this year.

Trent expects to have about 7,606 undergraduate and 209 graduate students this year, said Chris Michael, Trent's co-ordinator of institutional research.

It will be another three to six weeks of revisions before an official enrolment for the year is determined, he said yesterday.

In drafting the 2004-05 budget, Trent had planned for a 10 percent enrolment increase, but the actual increase has only been about six percent more than last year, Michael said.

As a result, Trent has had to put off hiring new staff to shave $1.75 million from its $70-million budget.
