About the Rae Review

The review will be headed by former NDP Premier Bob Rae. The Postsecondary Review is being carried out in three key stages, the second be of considerable interest to those of us who believe the management of our Ontario universities must become accountable, transparent and subject of Freedom of Information legislation;

  1. Examining past studies and reports on postsecondary education and undertaking research and analysis of best practices in Ontario, other parts of Canada and the world.
  2. Listening to Ontarians' ideas about postsecondary education, including extensive consultations with the public, stakeholders and knowledgeable experts.
  3. Developing recommendations to government.

The Review's Guiding Principles specifically note "Accountability";

  • ACCOUNTABILITY
    Postsecondary education institutions and government must answer for their results and the manner in which their responsibilities are discharged.

We believe that accountability in postsecondary education can only occur if the Ontario universities are brought under the Freedom of Information legislation. We haves said this in our submission to the Review.

As students, parents, taxpayers, faculty and alumni we are the stakeholders! Check the Postsecondary Review website for how you can get involved, submit your contributions and documents, and to be kept informed of Town Hall meetings. The Town Hall meeting for Peterborough is scheduled for November 22, 2004 (Sir Sandford Fleming College, Main Cafeteria, 599 Brealey Drive).
