Whose University Is It?
Guerilla Films Inc.
by James Motluk, Mark Wright (both are Trent Alumni)
When
the boardroom takes on the brain trust and the students wind up in jail, you have to ask whose university is it? Using Trent as an example, this documentary poses that very question as it examines how the values of the free market are destroying our universities. Once a place of ideas they are now becoming businesses where visionaries are being replaced by administrators and students are being reduced to lowly consumers. From the makers of Life Under Mike, this is a must see for anyone concerned about the state of public education.

James - So we did this interview and Patterson was very friendly. And then when she realized what we were going to talk about, she didnt want to talk about it.
Mark - She tried to storm off. At that point we realized that this is serious. Id expected it to be a congenial interview in some ways. And I was really shocked. and Ive been continually shocked at the Trent administrations approach to try to shut this down. Rather than saying "Okay lets debate it, lets talk about it," its been like "No, we made up our minds and we dont want anybody to talk about it anymore, we dont want any dissent."
All this led us to think that this is a very important thing that is happening and it goes well beyond the confines of Trent university. It goes to Oxford, it goes to Bologna, it goes to Harvard. Universities exist in society for a purpose, for a reason in society.
