Endowment Lands Master Plan Approved by Board |

From the Board of Governors' Meeting – Friday, January 27, 2006 Trent University's Board of Governors today approved a Master Plan to guide the future development of its Endowment Lands. Don O'Leary, Vice President (Administration) indicated that the Endowment Lands Master Plan will serve as the guidepost for the Board and administration as it identifies the best opportunities to develop the Endowment Lands. The content of the Endowment Lands Master Plan was guided by the updated Master Plan for the core campus, the recently approved Athletics Master Plan, and the Nature Areas Stewardship Plan which is still under study. The Endowment Lands Plan will add additional lands to the Nature Areas and create new buffers to protect Nature Areas adjacent to Endowment Lands. The finalization of the Endowment Lands Master Plan report followed an extensive consultation process that included meetings with student leaders, stakeholder interviews on campus and in the community, and open houses. The pursuit of an Endowment Lands strategy follows a decision by Trent's Board of Governors in the 1980s to designate the campus into three land use designations: Core Campus, Endowment Lands and Nature Areas. The creation of the Endowment Lands Master Plan is a follow-up to a motion passed by the Board of Governors in 1992, directing administration to finalize a plan to develop the University's Endowment Lands for the purpose of maximizing revenue. The approved plan can be accessed at: http://www.trentu.ca/endowmentlands/ Operating Budget Administration presented to the Board a 2005-06 budget update which projects a balanced budget for 2005-06 and a projected balanced budget for 2006-07. It was noted that operating costs have increased to reflect the growth in student numbers. The 2005-06 budget includes another contribution to the accumulated deficit. The University continues to wait for final confirmation of the amount of funding it will receive this year from the Province. Posted January 27, 2006
