J. Reid Morden, Chair, Board of Governors

J.Reid Morden   " Trent occupies a vital niche in Canada 's university spectrum. Its small size and emphasis on a quality liberal arts and science education, together with its innovative approach to distance learning, and its pioneering of educational, public and corporate partnerships put it in the forefront of Canada's small universities. I have been, and continue to be, pleased and proud to be associated with Trent . "

Reid Morden was born in Hamilton , grew up in Montreal and graduated from Dalhousie University . As a member of the Canadian Foreign Service he served in various locales at home and abroad, including the United Nations in New York and Geneva , in Pakistan and Japan . He concluded his public service career as Director of the Canadian Security Intelligence Service, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and President and CEO of Atomic Energy of Canada. Currently he is President of Reid Morden & Associates and serves on various commercial and non-profit boards and advisory boards, including that of York University 's Schulich School IMBA program. He is Chair of the Council of Chairs of the Council of Ontario Universities and a Fellow of the Canadian Defence and Foreign Affairs Institute. Reid is currently serving as Executive Director of the UN Independent Inquiry into the Oil for Food Programme and has been appointed Special Advisor to the Commission of Inquiry into the Actions of Canadian Officials in Relation to Maher Arar.
