Trent University professor made an officer of the Order of Canada By Loris Tuffin PeterboroughThis Week - October 22, 2004 Trent University professor Donald Mackay will be inducted as an officer of the Order of Canada on Oct. 30. Prof. Mackay is the founding director of the Canadian Environmental Modelling Centre at Trent. As one of Canada's leading scientists, he contributed to the quality and stewardship of the environment. He has been recognized internationally for his models, which describe the behaviour and effects of oil spills. He later developed an innovative system to predict the fate and effects of chemicals in the environment. In 2001, he was the first Canadian recipient of the prestigious Honda Prize for his work in eco-technology. From the Governor General's website: Donald Mackay, O.C.
